My friend Nicky and I power walk once a week in our lunch break. We leave the Harbour Office at Itchenor and turn either right or left and walk very fast until we are out of view and then settle into a pleasant gossip pace.
Anyhow, last week we were powering along the path just past Northshore boatyard and as you get to the end of the tarmaced bit you get a glimpse of the harbour breaking through the hedgerows. Just as we got to that point a trio of Brents glided into view. It was a perfect still Spring day, not a ripple on the water and hush quiet all around.
Our powering slowed right down and we crept like BBC Wildlife Photographers toward the water's edge. Just by chance we were carrying a camera so we crouched down low and took some shots before settling on our haunches to admire the birds.
They drifted by us in a V-shape, quite oblivious and obviously enjoying the view just as much as we were. A few more followed them by and we admired them and the sheer beauty of the location in hushed tones.
With lunch hour drawing to a close we strolled back having covered less than half a mile but feeling at peace with the world.
